Some of these bodies may be in a position to provide funding for individuals who are in receipt of certain Social Welfare payments so that they may attend training courses. This assistance depends upon the circumstances of the individual applying.
The Department of Social & Family Affairs and/or FÁS may be in a position to provide you with funding to attend a training course at Qualtec.
Allocation of FÁS Funding
• The allocation of funding for is solely at the discretion of FÁS and is dependent upon the availability of funding at the time of application and the applicant’s ability to satisfy the eligibility criteria established by FÁS.
• Individuals wishing to submit an application for FÁS funding should complete the following process:
o Register with FÁS(Candidates must complete a registration form)
o Upon successful registration, an applicant should arrange a meeting with the Employment Officer to discuss details relating to further training.
o Applicants are advised to provide the Employment Officer with all the relevant information in relation to the training programme e.g. cost of the programme
o FÁS will issue a prompt response as to whether the request for funding will be successful or not.
o Each funding application will be assessed on a case by case basis and the outcome will be determined following consideration of a number of factors, which may include but are not exclusive to:
- Category of applicant e.g. long term unemployed or those with special needs
- Applicant’s interest in the subject matter
- Job opportunities arising from training
- Personal Circumstances
- Referrals from Social Welfare
- Availability of funding

• Individuals wishing to submit an application for DSFA funding should make an appointment to see the Jobs Facilitator in the DSFA office from which they receive their Social Welfare Payment
• Each funding application is then considered on a case by case basis
