How would Qualtec approach implementing 9001 into your company?

Project Management

A person with the necessary authority and ability must be appointed as Quality Co-ordinator. His/her job is to liase with the consultant, co-ordinate and monitor the Quality System and to see that prompt and effective action is taken when required. It is expected that the Quality Co-ordinator would be available for approximately an hour and a half per week. If this is not practical a number of people can fulfill this role. Our consultant will manage the project.

This management will include:

- drawing up a project plan,

- assessing the company's procedures,

- identifying shortfalls in procedures,

- agreeing corrective action to ensure compliance with the standard,

- documenting the company's procedures,

- auditing the procedures to ensure compliance with the documented system,

- chairing progress reviews.

Phase I  Documented Quality System

The first phase of the Implementation Plan is to agree and document the new documented quality system.  To document these procedures, our consultant will have to visit your company once a week to talk to the relevant people responsible for different areas of the company.  It is important that procedures are          agreed directly with the people responsible for implementing them. All procedures will be agreed through consensus and there will be no extra paperwork added nor any change in procedures that cannot be justified on the basis of added value to the company and achieving quality objectives. It is expected that any changes in procedures will be implemented throughout the documentation phase.

Phase II Internal Quality Audits and implementation

Once the Quality System has been agreed and documented, the Internal Quality Audits phase can commence. The consultant will formally go through every procedure in the same way as the external auditor will in order to ensure that company personnel are operating in accordance with the agreed procedures. Any non- compliances will be recorded. The consultant will meet with the person responsible for the area where the non-compliance arose, to investigate why the procedure is not being complied with and to agree corrective action. The reason may very well be that the procedure is impractical and, if this is case, the procedure must be amended. However, if it is agreed that the procedure is correct, practical and necessary, agreement must be sought on when the procedure will be implemented. These procedures will be reviewed within a month to assess the effectiveness of the implementation. Once the audits have been “closed out” to the satisfaction of the consultant, the company is then ready for a formal audit by an external auditing body. Once satisfied with the new documented quality system meets the requirements of the new quality system and that it is fully implemented, the company will be approved to ISO 9001:2000
