The aim of this QQI Level Palliative Care Support Course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills of the palliative care approach to enable them to care for the person diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and, in the last days of a person’s life and also his/her family in a dignified and holistic way.

QQI Level Palliative Care Support Course objectives:

On completion of this learners will be able to:

  • provide holistic care for persons diagnosed with a life- limiting illness and in the last days of a person’s life and also for their families, carers and significant others
  • communicate effectively with persons with a life-limiting illness and in the last days of a person’s life and also with their families, carers and significant others
  • enhance the quality of life of the person with a life- limiting illness
  • recognise and respect the uniqueness of each person’s approach to death
  • work effectively as part of the healthcare team.

QQI Level Palliative Care Support Course Content:

  • Unit 1: Working with a Palliative Care Approach
  • Unit 2: Communication Skills
  • Unit 3: Death, Dying and Bereavement Care

 

QQI Level Palliative Care Support Course entry requirements:

The entry requirements for this QQI Level Palliative Care Support Course are as follows:

Learners are required to have a good command of English in terms of reading, writing and speaking.

This standard of proficiency is indicated by achieving or exceeding the standard of CEFR B2+ Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Learners who have achieved a passing grade in English at Junior Certificate level will be deemed to meet this criterion. However, learners for whom English is not their first language, are required to advise Qualtec, and may be required to provide evidence of proficiency.  This could include completing a standardised CEFR test or equivalent.

Learners should have basic IT skills. They will need to be able email, word process (Word) and use Presentation software (Powerpoint) and Zoom. They must have good broadband access and their own laptop/ tablet with microphone and speakers. (at least 10 Mbps download speed). This can be tested in advance of the course will arranging a practice log in by sending an email to [email protected] or using this online tool https://www.highspeedinternet.com/tools/speed-test. This should be tested prior to the course commencement.

The course must be completed by the learner on their own in a quite location on a computer at a desk/table.

QQI Level Palliative Care Support Assignments & Time Commitment 

Learners will need to complete several assignments.

Training Delivery Approach and Location

This course is delivered through blended learning and is assessed through Zoom. Learners must be present online for the full duration. They are expected to actively engage in the course through the completion of polls and responding to questions.

Technical Support

If learners have any academic IT issues they can contact the trainer by email or [email protected] from 9.00 until 5 Monday to Friday. They can also contact outside these hours in the cause of urgent issues.

Certification 
In successful completion of this course, learners will receive a QQI Level Palliative Care Support Certificate.
