I would highly recommend this course for anyone interested in the field of mental health and recovery. The course itself is structured well with in-depth information on a number of mental health conditions. While I have worked and volunteered in the mental health sector for quite some time, the course has given me a much better understanding of the causes , symptoms and effects of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, psychosis, schizophrenia, OCD, Post-natal and many other conditions. More importantly it has given very definate guidance on how I can make a difference to a person suffering with this condition with an emphasis on self-care.

While this course was emotive and heavy at times, Dave had a unique ability to ensure that the group dynamic and wellness was prioritised, bringing in lighter but relevant topics when appropriate. Everyone in the group were very open with fantastic relevant life examples which enhanced the learning.

This is one of the best courses I have taken in the field of Mental Health and feel that the delivery of it by David was a huge part of that. I look forward to delivering the course myself and feel competent and confident now doing so.. Thanks David for such an amazing well-facilitated course.

Leona O’Callaghan. Project Administrator @ Limerick Mental Health Association

The main reason I joined the course was to gain an insight into different mental health conditions and how to approach and support someone with the condition. What I got from the course as so much more! The knowledge and experience of the trainer was fantastic. David demonstrated a real passion for the topics and gave great advice on additional reading available to further our own knowledge.

The training content was simple and easy to follow. The supporting documents and articles for each topic added depth to the content. The 2-hour training sessions each week flew by! The group shared their own experiences with different conditions and this made the slides/content real.

I have learned so much about different mental health conditions. The main thing I have taken away from the 10 weeks, is spotting the signs and recognising the symptoms. I think this is so important, as you might be able to help and support someone in your family network or working environment. Prior to the course, I thought I knew about the conditions; I didn’t! There is so much more to learn and this educate piece is essential in helping to combat the stigma associated with mental health in Ireland.

Sinead Woods. Learning and Development Manager @ Momentum Support

I cannot speak highly enough of this Mental Health Train the Trainer Course. David’s knowledge of the course content and the way he engages with the class makes the training not just interesting but enjoyable. For me personally the biggest benefit in completing this course with Focused Training Ireland is the guidance and support given throughout the course. Dave is one of the most approachable trainers that I have come across and answers all questions in ways that are easy to understand. I would highly recommend completing this course with Focus Training Ireland.

Garret Wilson. Paramedic.

This course I can not recommend enough. Weather your someone who wants to learn about mental health, or if you struggle with mental health, this course is a must. This course is outlined & is delivered in its purest form. Personally I found some subjects difficult to deal as for many years I have struggled with both anxiety & depression. The pandemic has been tough me on like others but this course was a form a therapy for me. It actually gave me the much needed push into getting help. Really recognising it’s okay to show weakness, that I’m really not the only person who struggles & that there is help out there.

Dave was brilliant for the whole group. On paper it could of looked a difficult course. Myself, only a year into being an instructor & another gentleman who had been doing it for over twenty years. I never felt out of place or thought any less of & was treated with the up most respect. We were all allowed a voice & actively encouraged to share our experiences & thoughts.

The course has given me a real confidence boost and allowed me to accept myself for who I am. So continuing with the help I’m getting from professionals, everything I’ve learnt from this & ongoing training I am looking forward to delivering this course to others with high confidence.

Thomas Lynch

I have recently completed Train The Trainer for Mental Health. The course tutor was David Gahan. David delivered the course in both a professional and a very easy to understand manner. As a tutor David has the skills, knowledge and attitude to deliver this course at ease. From the outset David asked questions that ensured everyone got involved. He actively encouraged group participation and encouraged the group to share their life experiences. As an adult with not much academic accreditation, I was both apprehensive and nervous taking this course, but David made me feel at ease from the very outset and has been on hand to answer calls and emails when needed.

I would like to thank David for his professionalism, encouragement, patience and sharing his knowledge. I have no problem in recommending David and this course.

Gerard Smyth. Grad IOSH

I found the Mental Health Train the Trainer course facilitated by David Gahan an abundance of awareness which has increased my compassion not only for individuals experiencing difficulties with their mental health but also for their families, friends, and all care workers in the community. I have become more aware of how we all experience our mental health differently and that we all need to become more patient and compassionate towards ourselves and others and each take responsibility for learning more about this varied and diverse content.

Thoroughly enjoyed this training and the content was insightful and useful for any person at any time in any situation in their lives.
