First Aid Responder Refresher Course

Course aim: The aim of this First Aid Responder Refresher course is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be a First Aid ResponderFirst Aid Responder Course

Course objectives:

At the completion of this First Aid Responder Refresher course learners will be able to:

• deal with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions in the pre-hospital environment until arrival of emergency medical services.
• provide First Aid Response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.
• provide pre-hospital First Aid Response in a wide range of environments including home and recreational settings.
• display the requisite personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations.
• recognise and be able to cope with the additional challenges provided by “Special Circumstances” for which additional training must be completed

PHECC CFR Instructor recertification

It is a requirement by PHECC that CFR Instructors must recertify with their recognised institution every two years.

CFR instructor re certification requires:
a) Verification of CFR Community Instructor certificate
b) Verification of a balance of CFR/OFA/FAR courses delivered; a minimum 4 courses in the preceding 2 years (need to provide a list of these)
c) Assessment of CFR instructor skills/competencies by a CFR instructor trainer (mock class room set up)
d) Completion of any CFR update sessions if applicable following new ILCOR guidelines or new CPGs relevant at CFR level.

Qualtec’s re certification process involves:

  • Review of the current CPGs and discussion on any changes.
  • Demonstration and teaching of CFR Skills to students
  • Assessment of CFR Skills.

Certification

On successful completion of the re certification process learners will receive a PHECC CFR Instructor Certificate.

The aim of this QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively design and deliver manual handling instruction in the workplace.

QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor Course objectives:

On completion of this QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course learners will be able to:

  • Explain the main components of relevant manual handling health and safety legislation
  • Define the main components of the spinal column
  • Explain the main risk factors for back injuries related to manual handling
  • Describe the concepts of ergonomics in relation to manual handling
  • Explain the manual handling risk assessment process
  • To be able to carry out manual handling risk assessments
  • Describe a range of controls to avoid and reduce the risk of manual handling injuries
  • Apply the main principles of inanimate manual handling to a range of manual handling tasks
  • Analyse the learners performance of manual handling techniques
  • Develop inanimate manual handling training courses
  • Deliver effective manual handling training courses
  • Demonstrate understanding of adult learning principles
  • Give effective instruction in practical manual handling techniques

This course is delivered in Leixlip on the Dublin Kildare border just off the N4.

Certification 
In successful completion of this course learners will receive a QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor Certificate. This is a requirement by the HSA for manual handling training.
