PHECC FAR CFR Instructor Re-certification

In order for FAR Instructors to recertify with Qualtec they will need to provide evidence of their current certification as well as evidence of delivery of at least four FAR courses in the last two years on the on the Course Delivery Record. Please send this by email along with your current certificate.

Instructors will be allocated a topic from the PHECC FAR course and will be required to prepare and present that topic in 15 minutes. Deliver the course assuming the others are new learners.

Your CFR and FAR Instructor skills will also be assessed on the afternoon of the assessment day.  You will also assess other students’ skills. Please have your FAR/CFR equipment and skills sheets ready.

Those wishing to refresh their CFR Instructor certification can request assessment on the assessment day. (It is 200 euro for both).

The purpose of this Patient Handling Instructor course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to deliver a Patient Manual Handling Course.

Course objectives:

On completion of this Patient Handling Instructor Course learners will be able to:

  • Explain the patient handling risk assessment process
    Describe a range of controls to avoid and reduce the risk of injury associated with patient handling
    Apply the main principles of manual handling to a range of patient handling tasks
    Carry out a range of appropriate patient handling techniques to include transferring, supporting, gliding, sliding, rolling, sitting and standing
    Analyse the learner’s performance of patient handling techniques
    Develop patient handling training courses, to include lesson plans
    Give effective instruction in practical patient handling techniques

QQI Level 6 Patient Handling Instructor Course location:

This course is delivered through Zoom (day 1 and classroom (day 2 & day 3).

QQI Level 6 Patient Handling Instructor entry requirements

Participants must first complete the QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course.

To ensure the greatest opportunity for successful participation in our programmes, learners are required to have a good command of English in terms of reading, writing and speaking.

This standard of proficiency is indicated by achieving or exceeding the standard of CEFR B2+ Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Learners who have achieved a passing grade in English at Junior Certificate level will be deemed to meet this criterion. However, learners for whom English is not their first language, are required to advise Qualtec, and may be required to provide evidence of proficiency.  This could include completing a standardised CEFR test or equivalent.

Learners should have basic IT skills. They will need to be able email, word process (Word) and use Presentation software (Powerpoint) and Zoom. They must have good broadband access and their own laptop/ tablet with microphone and speakers. The course should be completed in a quite location. This can be tested prior to the course commencement.

QQI Level 6 Patient Handling Instructor Course Assignments & Time Commitment 

Learners will need to complete a number of assignments.

Patient Handling Risk Assessment on a manual handling task (Brief & template provided) of 750 words. Allow 2 hours to complete and due on final day.

Lesson Plan for the skills demonstrated(template provided). Allow I hour for completion and due on the final day of the course.

Preparation of skills demonstration for 15 minute presentation.  Allow 2 hours for this preparation. Delivered on day 3 of the course.

Study for Patient Handling Instructor Exam (20 short questions). Allow 2 hours for study. Completed on day 3 of the course.

Training Delivery Location

Day 1 will be delivered through Zoom and day 2 & 3 will be delivered in the classroom.

Certification 
In successful completion of this course learners will receive a QQI Level 6 Patient Handling Instructor Certificate. This is a requirement by the HSA for the delivery of Patient handling training in Ireland.

Course duration: This course is one day in duration for experienced/certified trainers.

Certification and Accreditation: On successful completion of this Fire Safety & Marshal Instructor Course candidates will receive a Fire Safety & Marshal Instructor certificate valid for five years.

PHECC First Aid Responder Course

Course aim: The aim of this First Aid course online is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be a First Aid ResponderFirst Aid Responder Course

Course objectives:

At the completion of this First Aid course online learners will be able to:

• deal with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions in the pre-hospital environment until arrival of emergency medical services.
• provide First Aid Response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.
• provide pre-hospital First Aid Response in a wide range of environments including home and recreational settings.
• display the requisite personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations.
• recognise and be able to cope with the additional challenges provided by “Special Circumstances” for which additional training must be completed

Access: In order to participate on the course learners must have a reasonable level of English comprehension.

Online First Aid Course duration: 18 Hours delivered over three days (Two through video conferencing and followed by one in the classroom.

Learners will be assessed on five FAR skills including CPR on the final day.

Online First Aid Course Delivery Methodology

elearning folllowed by classroom.

The theory element is delivered through elearning on our Learning Management System followed by one day in the classroom as above.

The learning course is then followed by a traditional classroom session which involves practical demonstration and skills assessment.

In the classroom session, the theory is recapped, the learners complete the 20 question MCQ and all skills are demonstrated, practiced and then assessed.

First Aid Course Online Assessment & Time Commitment 

You will be required to complete a 20 questions MCQ on the final Day.  Allow 4 hours for the revision of your notes in preparation for this.

Preparation for FAR Skill (s) assessment. Your FAR and CFR skills will be assessed on the final day of the course. You will need to revise your FAR and CFR skills in advance of being assessed. Allow 2 hours for this preparation.

Certification

On successful completion of the course students will receive a PHECC First Aid Responder certificate
